1. The Peer Review Results

The School has reported its strengths and weaknesses. Mostly the School has performed its compliance to the standards of ABEST21. However, there are some issues that need to be improved such as the numbers of staff shall be increased.

With these reviews combined, we conclude our evaluation as follows.
“The Program’s educational and research activities generally satisfy accreditation standards. The Program’s Quality Improvement plans are good and quality maintenance and prospects for the improvement of education and research are promising.”

2. The Period of Quality Assurance

Accreditation commences from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2021 for a five-year period.

3. Good Practices in Management Education

Uniqueness:

PPM School of Management, the first institution of Magister Manajemen in Indonesia, possesses three uniqueness, i.e. (1) applied management science (conceptual-based best practices), (2) a balance between technical competence (functional) and behavioral competences, and (3) very strong orientation towards business ethics.
In delivering management studies, PPM SoM provides applied management sciences. On the one hand, PPM SoM is an integrated part of consultancy, assessment, and training divisions under PPM Manajemen, so that teaching materials are designed based on the implementation of management concepts in Indonesian companies which are PPM clients. On the other hand, there is another uniqueness i.e. internship program for PPM regular MM students. The internship program is a medium for students to directly learn business for 10 weeks in a company. During this period, MM students should analyze problems and provide recommended solutions. The students are not just evaluated based on the quality of their analysis written in their reports, but also based on their communication and inter-personal skills when they interact with the staffs in the company. An executive of the company and a mentor of PPM SoM who are competent in the respective area are appointed to guide these students.
In addition to the internship, the curriculum of PPM SoM also assigns the students to learn and evaluate the real implementation of management in their workplace, particularly for MM part-time students who already work. In several subjects, PPM SoM applies action learning, i.e., students have to design action plans for their own company, or to identify problems as well as provide constructive solutions. It is a part of their subject assessments and grading system. Meanwhile, for MM regular students who normally do not have an occupation yet, PPM SoM provides Marketing Day and Service Marketing Day as their action-learning programs. These programs encourage students to design business plan, execute their plan in PPM area, and evaluate their start-up business.
In addition to the applied management science, PPM SoM already integrates two essential competences for a business executive, i.e. hard competence, which is related to technical and functional knowledge, and soft competence, which is concerned with individual behavior. PPM SoM fosters the talents of students and prepares the behavior of MM students, particularly MM Regular students, to be a leader and professional executive. The programs include T-Group, Mentoring, Outbound, and Team Development, which enhance four soft competences: Self Confidence, Relationship Building, Passion for Growth, and Team Leadership. Besides, PPM SoM also conducts community awareness as a part of soft competence improvement that will help students to develop social responsibilities of the MM students in accordance with the mission of MM program of PPM SoM.
Finally, PPM SoM, through its curriculum and social interaction of its civitas academica, is very concerned with business ethics and professionalism. A lecturer also has a role as a mentor for each MM student. MM students are grouped into mentoring group and paired with her/his classmate whose role is as her/his buddy (i.e., a buddy system). The following characters are nurtured at PPM SoM: discipline in teaching-learning process, honest, well behave, and respect others.

PRT Comments:

In terms of uniqueness, I think it should be elaborated more as: focus on applied science, combine technical and behavioural competences, and strong orientation towards ethical business practices are embraced by many other business schools.

Good Practice:
“Management Studies based on applied management sciences”

The School should decide whether to focus more on applied science or combining technical and behavioral competences, and strong orientation towards ethical business practices. Based on its resources, the School should focus on practical business education due to its strengths.

4. Matters to be notedEducation

The School should have a serious commitment to meet all detail ABEST21 standards and always thinking on continous improvement.

  • PPM tries to combine theory and practice, and should design its curriculum based on the percentages assigned to theory and practice.
  • The School should go global through inviting foreign students and lecturers to join the program.
  • Research fund should be strengthened in the future to ensure high quality of teaching and publications.
  • Humanizing education should receive more emphasis, and more attention should be given to the facilities.
